Meet the Team of Trinity Exteriors

With the large storm that hit Blaine, Coon Rapids, and Brooklyn Park this summer, we’ve unfortunately had some complaints by homeowners who are disappointed with the contractors they’ve hired for their roof replacement.

While most contractors in the North Metro area are reputable, licensed, and local, there are reports of storm chasers pressuring homeowners into signing contracts. These are the same contractors who aren’t following through on construction, or who are delayed for several months for contracts signed in June. This can be an indication of lack of resources or cash flow on the part of the contractor, but whatever the case, it’s worrisome for those homeowners who still have windows to install before the winter.

For sales made in homes, such as when a roofing contractor knocks on your door, inspects your roof, and you sign the contract, the homeowner has three days in which to cancel the contract with no reason. The representative must tell you about your right to cancel at the time of the sale with a full refund. Perhaps you liked the salesperson but then you found poor online reviews for the company and didn’t feel comfortable moving forward with work. We’ve even had a case where a homeowner forgot his son-in-law was a roofing contractor, so he really felt obligated to use him rather than Trinity.

While it can be difficult to reject a contractor, know it’s your right to cancel within three days. If you put down a deposit, you’re entitled to a full refund.

If a contractor shows resistance to you about canceling, or outright lies and says you can’t, this is not the type of person you want working on your house. You can contact a complaint resolution center, such as that within the BBB or Angie’s List, to help resolve the conflict. Or, if you feel you have no other recourse and if the contractor is licensed, you can file a complaint with the state agency.

For the investment you’re making in your home, you deserve a contractor you trust. You should be able to call the contractor and not feel as though they are avoiding you. They may be busy during this time, but they should touch base and reassure you of the general timing of the project.
