Meet the Team of Trinity Exteriors

Minnesota is just one of those areas in the country that sees a great deal of large storms. Eden Prairie in particular has suffered a tremendous amount of damage from hail and heavy winds, most recently in 2013 when a major storm ripped through the area, and thousands of roofs had to be replaced. Any remodeling or renovation project can cause a great deal of stress for a homeowner, but being proactive certainly helps in reducing the usual worries associated with a major project.

If you suspect your home may have suffered hail damage, here are five things to do to start an easy restoration process.

  1. Find a reputable contractor. You may call your insurance agent (not the claims line!) for a recommendation, or ask family and friends. If no one has notable experience with any particular contractor, search online reviews. Angie’s List, for example, now offers a free platform where homeowners can search for “roofing contractor” and the engine pulls your Eden Prairie location information. You’ll be able to see reviews customers left for roofing contractors near you.
  2. Once you’ve found a roofing expert you can trust, call for a free inspection. It’s a good idea to call for an inspection before calling your insurance claims line because if you don’t have damage, you won’t need to go through the additional work of filing a claim.
  3. Don’t forget to have your contractor inspect your attic. If your roof decking is rotting, or if you have poor attic ventilation, these costs will crop up later in the project, and any unexpected costs are certainly a point of stress.
  4. Have your roofing contractor back out when your insurance claims adjuster arrives onsite. This is just a measure that helps make the adjuster’s job easier if your contractor can point out damage to them.
  5. Be clear on the timeline of your project. A good roofing contractor will proactively call to alert you to when crews will be arriving to install new shingles. Having people show up at your house unexpectedly is definitely stressful.
